Description

The Radiology Department of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova has been active since 1970, which was a representative year for Craiova's medicine and for Romanian education due to the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Craiova. Initially, the discipline was called "Radiology", but with the technological advances in physics and medicine, new imaging diagnostic techniques were developed, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Thus, the subsequent name of the discipline became 'Radiology and Medical Imaging'.

In the period 1973-1974, the teaching activity within the discipline was coordinated by Associate Professor Ion Pușcaș and Assistant Professor Andrei Bondari who took over the direction of the discipline in 1974.  Prof. PhD Andrei Bondari taught the courses of the discipline to students in their fourth year of study at the Faculty of Medicine in Craiova and also coordinated the practical activity of the discipline.

As for his teaching activity, Professor Andrei Bondari has gone through all the stages of academic development, becoming assistant professor in the Faculty of Medicine in 1975, head of works in 1982, university lecturer in 1990 and university professor in 1994. His scientific and research activity took the form of papers published in volumes of abstracts at national and international scientific events, the publication of articles in national and international journals, as well as research projects and studies, including programmes of national interest in collaboration with the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences. He has also organised national conferences and inter-city symposia, intensive courses in radiology and participated in numerous national and international scientific events. Between 1997 and 2001, he was Director of the Dolj Health Directorate.

A prominent member of Romanian radiology and a forerunner of radiology in Craiova, Prof. Andrei Bondari was a member of the Romanian Society of Radiology and Medical Imaging, as well as of the European Society of Radiology and the Balkan Medical Union. Professor Bondari has also received the title of Honorary Citizen of Santa Cruz, California and of Craiova. As a reward for all his professional activity, in 2018 he was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the Romanian Society of Radiology and Medical Imaging, and in 2019 the Diploma of Excellence of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova.

Subsequently, the didactic activity of the Radiology and Medical Imaging discipline was carried out under the direction of Prof. Zoia Stoica who received in 2019 the title of Honorary Member of the Romanian Society of Radiology and Medical Imaging, being followed at the leadership of the discipline by Assoc. Phd. Mihai Popescu.
