Surgical semiology
Hours/week: lectures 2, internships 4
General objectives: general notions of asepsis and antisepsis, surgical infections, antibiotics in surgery, soft tissue trauma, burns and frostbite, haemorrhage and haemostasis, early detection of cancer, clinical examination of the abdomen, abdominal trauma, hernias, acute peritonitis, intestinal occlusion, enteromenteric infarction, internal bleedingOrgan torsion, surgical semiology of the throat, breast, oesophagus, diaphragm, stomach, duodenum, small and large intestine, rectum, hepato-biliary, diseases of the pancreas and spleen, diseases of the peripheral veins and arteries.
Specific objectives: acquiring the necessary knowledge about the organization and functioning of the surgery clinic, about the preparation of the clinical observation sheet, assimilation of the necessary notions about performing: clinical examination on devices and systems, rectal and vaginal examination, dressings and bandages of a surgical suture, injections, punctures and biopsies, incisions and drainages, probings, assimilation of the necessary knowledge about performing paraclinical examinations in surgical diseases of the throat, mammary gland, oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, small and large intestine, rectum, hepatobiliary, pancreas and spleen, acquisition of the necessary knowledge about the technique of clinical examination of the mammary region, abdomen, in diseases of the peripheral veins and arteries.

Trauma of the abdomen; Semiology of surgical disorders of the oesophagus; Semiology of surgical disorders of the diaphragm; Surgical semiology of the stomach; Surgical semiology of the duodenum; Surgical semiology of the small and large intestine; Surgical semiology of the rectum; Hepatobiliary surgical semiology; Surgical semiology of diseases of the pancreas and spleen; Acute peritonitis; Intestinal occlusion; Enteromysenteric infarction, internal hemorrhage, organ torsion; Surgical semiology of peripheral vein diseases; Surgical semiology of peripheral artery diseases.
Content of the practical work/internships: Organisation and functioning of the surgical clinic; Asepsis and antisepsis. Functional circuits. Nosocomial infection; Clinical observation sheet. Anamnesis; Clinical examination methods. General clinical examination; Clinical examination by apparatus and systems. Local examination. Rectal cough and vaginal cough; Dressings and bandages. Wounds and their treatment; Surgical instruments. Surgical sutures; Injections, puncture and biopsy. Incision and drainage. Probes. Paraclinical examinations; Clinical examination and paraclinical examinations in surgical neck disorders; Technique of clinical examination of the mammary region; Technique of clinical examination of mammary tumours and paraclinical explorations; Technique of clinical examination of the abdomen; Hernias, eventrations and eviscerations. Technique of clinical examination of the abdominal wall; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the oesophagus and diaphragm; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the stomach and duodenum; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the small and large intestine; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the rectum; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the hepatobiliary system; Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis of surgical disorders of the pancreas and spleen; Acute abdomen. Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis;Peritonitis. Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis; Intestinal occlusion. Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis; Other causes of acute abdomen. Clinical and paraclinical diagnosis; Abdominal pain;Semiology of intestinal transit disorders and vomiting; Symptoms and signs in hydroelectrolyte imbalances and protein-calorie malnutrition;Clinical examination technique and paraclinical examinations in peripheral vein diseases; Clinical examination technique and paraclinical examinations in peripheral artery diseases. N.B. Each topic is accompanied by case presentations and demonstrations.
