The discipline of Phtysiology began its activity in the university education in Craiova in the autumn of 1975, having as head of discipline at that time Prof. Virgiliu Golli. Since the 1990 academic year, the discipline has operated with 4 teaching staff, the team being completed with Prof. Mimi Nițu, Head of works Ileana Băzăvan and Head of works Gingă Paul.

Since 1994, when Prof. Virgiliu Golli retired and became a consultant professor, the direction of the discipline was taken over by Prof. Mimi Nițu. The current team has 2 members: Prof. Mimi Nițu, Head of works Ileana Băzăvan.

Since 2000, the Department of Phtyisiology has been completed with two associate professors: prof. dr. Cristian Didilescu and prof. dr. Emilia Crișan, who have extended their doctoral research and teaching activity through post-graduate courses on various and highly relevant topics.
