The Neurology Discipline was established in 1975, and since 1976 it has been under the coordination of Dr. Stoica Ion, university professor of neurology, doctor of medical sciences and at the same time head of the Craiova Neurology Clinic. 

From 1993 to 2015, the direction of the discipline was taken over by Dr. Zaharia Cornelia, university professor of neurology, doctor of medical sciences and head of the Neurology I clinic, and in the period 2015-2020 the didactic activity in the specialty of neurology for the students of the 5th year of General Medicine and Dentistry was carried out under the direction of Dr. Tudorica Valerica, university lecturer, doctor of medical sciences and head of the Neurology II clinic.

Since 2021, Dr. Albu Valeria Carmen, university lecturer, PhD in medical sciences and head of the Neurology I clinic, has been appointed to head the discipline.

At present, the entire teaching activity, which includes the course for students and practical work in neurology, is carried out in the modern and well-equipped clinical base of the Clinical Hospital of Neuropsychiatry Craiova, which includes the two specialized clinical wards where the training activity of a large number of residents in Neurology and other related specialties also takes place.
