History of the Faculty of Pharmacy

The Faculty of Pharmacy holds a well-defined position within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova (UMFCV), having demonstrated remarkable results in both education and research throughout the nearly 25 years since its establishment.
The Faculty of Pharmacy within UMFCV has followed the same evolutionary stages as the university over the years. In 1996, the Pharmacy specialization began its activity with 51 students in the 'Pharmacy' study program; however, over time, their number increased so that, during the last institutional evaluation conducted by ARACIS in the 2014-2015 academic year, 125 seats were approved for the first year of this bachelor's degree program (according to the ARACIS Council Resolution of April 30, 2015). The Faculty of Pharmacy project became a reality out of a necessity for the national modernization project and was very strongly supported by the teaching staff teams from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry.
Following the 2015 ARACIS evaluation, the 2015-2016 academic year marked the beginning of student training within the 'Pharmacy - English language' bachelor's degree program. This program was authorized by ARACIS in 2013, but admissions were suspended in 2019 as it followed the general trend of reduced interest for such an English-taught program, with only 22 students enrolled in the 2020-2021 academic year.
Continuing the process of developing and diversifying the educational offer of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova organized, on September 24, 2023, the first admission exam for the study program 'Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology'.
Throughout this time, the academic staff of the Faculty of Pharmacy have carried out activities to support the faculty's primary mission in the fields of teaching and scientific research. This mission is aligned with the broader mission of UMFCV — education, scientific research, healthcare, and continuing medical education — and the objectives established for its fulfillment, while also incorporating elements of specificity and opportunity in accordance with the national qualifications framework.
As part of the development strategy for the Faculty of Pharmacy's study programs and in line with the institutional strategic objectives—reflecting a permanent concern for our graduates' integration into the labor market and the support of continuing pharmaceutical education—the faculty offers two master's degree programs: Pharmacology and Toxicology (one-year duration) and Clinical Laboratory Techniques and Drug Analysis (two-year duration).
