Discipline history

The Discipline of Orthopedics and Traumatology was established in the Faculty of Medicine, at that time belonging to the University of Craiova, in 1974, as a result of the need to improve specialized medical care in the Oltenia area, as well as the higher qualification of medical staff, within a university education process. The Orthopaedics discipline was initially part of the General Surgery discipline, and later became an independent discipline, with separate internships and examinations.
The Head of the Research Department was Dr. Constantin Radu, currently Consultant Professor, and the assistants were Dr. Cela Anghel, Dr. Dan Barbu and Dr. Stefan Maksay. Prof. dr. Constantin Radu, accredited by the Ministry of National Education as a PhD supervisor, has 10 PhD students in training.
Among the teaching and scientific achievements we mention: 1 treatise, 16 monographs, 246 papers published in national and international journals. The discipline's collective totals more than 100 participations in national and international congresses, conferences, symposia and round tables. The head of the discipline and the other teaching staff are systematically part of certification, competition and examination committees in the teaching or medical network.
