Description

Immunology is the science that aims to study immune responses and the cellular and molecular events that occur after an organism encounters microbes or other foreign macromolecules.

Immunology is a compulsory subject (2 credits) that started its activity in the Faculty of General Medicine of Craiova in 2002, after the separation of the Bacteriology, Virusology, Parasitology subject.

The curriculum provides for the course and practical work of Immunology, at the Faculty of Medicine, 3rd year, taught in Romanian and English, at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, 2nd year, taught in Romanian and English, and at the Master - Clinical Laboratory and Drug Analysis, 1st year.

Within the discipline, a special interest was taken in setting up the laboratory for didactic activity with students, in order to set up the necessary equipment for this activity, in parallel with the activity of elaborating and editing the bibliographical material necessary for the good development of the didactic activity in the laboratory and the lecture.

The activity of the Immunology discipline has had as priority objective the quality teaching activity and an efficient experimental training of the students.

General objective:

  • acquiring by students of basic immunology concepts
  • knowledge and understanding of the body's defence mechanisms
  • understanding the importance of studying these immunological defence mechanisms in medical practice.

With regard to the specific objectives, the members of the discipline have been concerned with familiarizing students with modern immunological concepts and techniques.

The disciplines Immunology correlates with are: Biochemistry, Genetics, Microbiology, Histology, Physiology, Pathophysiology, Morphopathology, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology or Rheumatology.

The Immunology discipline has had and currently has, through the Immunology Laboratory, established in 2001, inter and transdisciplinary collaborations with the disciplines of Rheumatology, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics-Gynecology and Periodontology.

The Immunology Laboratory has diagnostic and research activities, among the priority research directions we mention immunoserological studies in digestive pathology, systemic rheumatic diseases, pregnancy pathology and periodontal disease.
