Evening lectures at UMF Craiova

The “Evening Lectures” series continues at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova with a special session dedicated to the relationship between image, identity, and introspection.
The guest of this edition is Dr. Augustin Cupșa – writer, screenwriter, and psychiatrist, and alumnus of UMF Craiova – who will deliver the lecture titled “The Indistinct Image: Face, Self-Portrait, and Selfie.”
The event will take place on November 20, 2025, at 8:00 PM, in the “Mihai Ioana” Lecture hall.
Dr. Augustin Cupșa graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at UMF Craiova and practiced psychiatry in Bucharest and Paris. He later completed a Master’s degree at the Center of Excellence in Image Studies at the University of Bucharest, where he conducted research on the selfie and the photography of artist Friedl Kubelka.
A prolific author, Dr. Cupșa writes short stories, essays, screenplays, novels, and children’s literature. His latest book, 3300 Pairs of Palms (Trei Publishing House, 2025), has already been enthusiastically received by critics. Angelo Mitchievici described it as “a Weltanschauung of the author, filtered through the art of the novel,” while Cosmin Perța called it “one of the most beautiful novels in contemporary Romanian literature.”
“Augustin Cupșa’s prose has the finesse of a scalpel that precisely penetrates the tissues of a kaleidoscopically told world. Not only is the novel driven by narrative force, but also by its ability to explore diverse social environments, to reconstruct worlds in their unpredictable succession, and to give form to the human condition.” Angelo Mitchievici
This event aims to offer students and the Craiova audience an interdisciplinary perspective on how we construct and project our image in contemporary society — through the lenses of medicine, art, and psychology.
