Description

The activity of the Internal Medicine discipline: Cardiology is carried out in the Cardiology Clinics of the County Emergency Clinical Hospital and the Filantropia Municipal Clinical Hospital in Craiova. An important role in the development of the clinic is held by Prof. Dan Dominic Ionescu, who brought this discipline to the current professional standards. Currently, the activity is coordinated by Prof. Octavian Istrătoaie, who is actively involved in the continuous development of medical and research activity, contributing decisively to the establishment of the new centre for interventional cardiology and cardiovascular surgery.

The internal medicine - cardiology discipline organizes courses and practical training for students (both the Romanian and English language modules), as well as the training of resident doctors in cardiology. The cardiology department has also been involved in the organisation of several scientific events in collaboration with the Romanian Society of Cardiology.

As far as research activity is concerned, it is varied, involving participation of members of the discipline in multi-centre clinical trials, national and international registries and obtaining grants. In order to adequately carry out teaching and scientific research, the Cardiology Clinic has several modern echocardiographs, a coronary intensive care unit (USTACC) and, with the start of work in the new Cardiology Centre, the possibility of using invasive cardiological investigations.
