DEAN'S MESSAGE
University education for the training of general medical assistants began at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova in 1999 with the establishment of the University College of Medicine (CUM), under the leadership of Director dr. Fl. Cornițescu, in accordance with Law 88 of 1993 on the accreditation of higher education institutions and following the Order of the Ministry of National Education No. 4051 of 29 June 1998 on the establishment of the University Colleges of Medicine.
The Faculty of Midwives and Nursing (FMAM) was established by the HG no. 635/11.06.2008 and is the youngest educational form of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova.
The establishment of the Faculty of Midwives and Nursing of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova is in line with the recommendations of the European Union to approach the sectorally regulated specializations of midwives and nurses from a scientific position, which gives autonomy in health care activity.
In 2009, the FMAM of UMF Craiova operated with four undergraduate fields: general medical assistants, midwives (long-term studies, 4 years), balneology-physio-kinetotherapy and dental technology (short-term studies, 3 years).
In 2012 it was one of the four faculties with this profile in Romania (together with FMAM of UMF "Gr T Popa" in Iasi, UMF "Carol Davila" in Bucharest and UMF "Iuliu Hațieganu" in Cluj).
From 2012 to 2020, FMAM operated with three study programs:Nursing, Midwives and Balneophysiokinetotherapy and Recovery.
The educational process within the FMAM of UMF Craiova is ensured by teaching staff of UMF Craiova, who work together to successfully accomplish the specific tasks of each degree field.
The educational disciplines are provided in a logical sequence and define general and domain-specific competences, in correlation with the competences of the Master's degree studies; they are compatible with the national qualifications framework and with similar EU Programmes, the weight of the disciplines being expressed in ECTS study credits.
Graduates of the GEF are offered the possibility of continuing their studies in the second cycle of university education in the form of Master's studies.
In the academic year 2009-2010 the master programme "Development of Community Nursing Services" was accredited. The master's degree opens up the possibility for nurses to systematically carry out research work and offers them the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies and to participate directly in the teaching activity of the WFAM.
Then, in the academic year 2020-2021, the educational offer of the GEF, has been improved by the establishment of the Radiology and Imaging study programme which has proved to be a success.
The main mission of FMAM, an integral part of UMF Craiova, is to promote education and academic performance in the training of competitive graduates who can integrate into the labour market in all health systems in the world.
The fundamental strategic objective is to increase the quality of the educational process, both in terms of achieving the European dimensions of university education and the internal dimensions of academic quality.
The professionalism and skills acquired, the human quality that we aim to develop, aim to bring the graduate the trust and respect of patients and enable them to contribute to the progress of science.
The material basis of the Faculty of Midwives and Nursing with its three study programmes, Nursing, Radiology and Imaging and Balneophysiokinesitherapy and Rehabilitation, ensures a high standard with current requirements. In order to broaden the educational offer we have started the procedures for the establishment of a new study programme Nutrition and Dietetics.
Dear students, on behalf of all the teaching staff, I assure you of our full support in the fulfilment of your projects.
DEAN,
Prof. PhD Georgeta Ligia Stănescu
